Very few real sleight of hand experts have extensive professional entertaining experience. Of the few that do, I’m the only one I know of with long teaching experience, a real plan to unleash your potential and a sincere desire to see it through.
I run this program because I know from firsthand experience that learning to perform great card magic is a lot harder than it looks.
During my first years in magic, I felt lost and untalented all the time. Why? I knew I wasn’t making any real progress, and I felt honestly like I might never improve—sometimes, it truly seemed hopeless.
“There are times when I get in my own way or stress out as I try to grasp a concept. Aaron’s guidance here has been invaluable—he helps keep me centered. In the end, my magic has been made a lot more enjoyable and fulfilling by working with someone whom I consider a friend, someone who uses his experience and thought to help me get where I want to be.”
—Mike Kmiec, Age 40, Wellington, New Zealand
In 1992 I began taking lessons with D.C. card legend Jack Birnman—I began improving, literally overnight. After just a few lessons, I found I could genuinely fool people. It made me so happy, I got serious about my practice—and had my first original technique published in Magic Magazine the next year.
In 1994 I moved to Baltimore and studied with a real card table expert, Peter Francis, himself the student of an underground master. Pete helped me understand 20th-century masters like Erdnase, Vernon, Miller, and Marlo. Thanks to Pete’s teaching, magicians around this time began telling me my sleights were truly “invisible.”
In 1997 I moved to Las Vegas, where I was mentored by some of the greatest living artists in our craft, Michael Skinner and John Thompson. I also received regular feedback from sleight of hand titans like Allan Ackerman, Earl Nelson and Larry Jennings. These masters helped me refine my technique and understanding.
During this time, my theater teachers at UNLV helped me connect my sleight of hand with the ancient crafts of acting and performance. To share these lessons with fellow magicians, I began writing my book, The Paper Engine: Tension, Focus and Design in Card Magic.
Now in its fifth printing, the book can be found in the library of every serious card man in the world. To refine and teach the ideas in it, I’ve spoken to magic societies over a 100 times in more than 10 countries, to thousands of students around the world.
To get better at helping individual students progress, in 2003 I began teaching regularly at Canada’s Sorcerer Safari summer program. During my years there, I’ve seen firsthand how a real plan, paired with regular guidance, always makes a profound and lasting impact for sincere students.
Since I became a fulltime entertainer 2003, I’ve performed over 100 shows at Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle Nightclub and demonstrated my special brand of card magic at celebrity events in Beverly Hills and corporate retreats across the nation.
I’ve performed for Nick Cage, Noah Wiley, Grammy winner Beck and dozens of other famous types. I’ve amazed Ellen DeGeneres and her celebrity guests at the comedienne’s televised birthday party on the Warner Brothers backlot. One of the few performers capable of working each one of the Magic Castle’s four showrooms, I perform completely different material on each stage. I also work with some of the best magicians in the world every year creating the international close-up show/television property Curiosidades.
No matter how much I’m performing, I spend time every year working with individual students for the simple reason that I’ve never found a better way to positively impact magic and he lives of my fellow magicians all of whom essentially have the same dream—to perform beautiful magic for thrilled audiences.
I’ve been practicing for so long, pursued so many paths on the way, studied with so many teachers and mentors and taught so many students, I have a unique understanding of card magic and how to teach it that allows me to…
In short, I can help you develop more fully, more quickly and more confidently than you can by any other method available.
